Part-time & Post Study Work Rights

Part-time (Student Visa)

  • Up to 964 hours/year (≈ 20 hours/week) during studies

  • Full-time work allowed (≈ 35 hrs/week)

  • Approx. €11.65/hour gross (after tax ≈ €9–€10/hour)

  • On-campus or off-campus; no restrictions on employer

  • Must hold a valid student residence permit

  • Paid internships are common and encouraged (mandatory for many programs)

  • Students working part-time are covered by the French social security system

Post Study Work (Graduate Visa)

  • Eligible for 1-year APS (Autorisation Provisoire de Séjour)

  • - Allows job search or startup planning- Can work full-time

  • APS not guaranteed unless in selected fields or through job offer

  • If job found with salary ≥ 1.5× minimum wage, can apply for work permit

  • Available for graduates with viable business ideas

  • If offered a high-paying job (usually ≥ €53,000/year), apply for this permit

Important Notes:

  • France offers 2-year stay back for Master’s graduates from some nationalities (like India).

  • The APS (Temporary Residence Permit) is non-renewable, so you must secure employment or apply for a different residence status during that time.

  • Part-time income may help with living costs, but not sufficient to cover tuition/living alone.
