From a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada. Must be official and unconditional.

Should be valid for the entire duration of your study program.

Minimum CAD 20,635/year for living expenses (outside Quebec) + tuition fees + travel cost. Can include: bank statements, GIC (for SDS), sponsor letter, education loan, etc.

Mandatory for SDS route. CAD 20,635 deposited in a Canadian bank like Scotia, ICICI, or SBI Canada.

Two recent passport-sized photos as per Canadian visa specifications.

Completed online through the IRCC portal.

Strong explanation of why you chose Canada, your course, career goals, and return intent.

IELTS (6.0 bands in each module) is mandatory for SDS. Other tests like TOEFL or PTE accepted in non-SDS.

Must undergo a medical exam by an IRCC-approved panel physician. Required before or after applying.

From the local police station or passport office. Not always requested, but advisable to have.

All mark sheets, transcripts, degree/diploma certificates from 10th to latest qualification.

Part-time & Post Study Work Rights

Part-time (Student Visa)

Post Study Work (Post Graduation Work permit (PGWP))

  • PGWP Allows students to work full-time in Canada after graduation from an eligible program.

  • Duration of PGWP is based on course length:
    * 8 months–2 years course → PGWP equals course length
    ** 2+ year course → up to 3-year PGWP

Important Notes on PGWP:

  • Eligibility: Graduate of a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) offering PGWP-eligible programs.

  • No Job Offer Required: Students do not need a job offer to apply for PGWP.

  • Path to PR: PGWP work experience counts toward Canadian Permanent Residency (PR) through programs like CEC under Express Entry.

  • For example, a student pursuing a 2-year MBA at a DLI will likely receive a 3-year PGWP, giving ample time to work and apply for PR.
